The Bride by Julie Garwood

This day I finally finished reading Julie Garwood's "The Bride". Yeeeey! Although it took me about 18 hours to finish it, it's still so fulfilling. I haven't held a book for like centuries! After I finished all the books of Julia Quinn, I lay low.

I was actually looking for a book which has an old England setting like those of Julia Quinn and I heard that Juulie Garwood has the same kind of books and that she is actually a senior to Quinn. So I decided to start reading Garwood's book.

The Bride is about two complete strangers being forced to wed by the king's command. At first I didn't really like it because I don't like the kind of stories which have castles, clans, barbarians and the like. I love those stories with normal English people, not very rich and living the average kind of life. But then because of this book I realized that it didn't really matter. This is a mix of the English and Scottish culture in the old days and I find it amusing that English people also hate the Scots. In this story of course, I dont know if this was really true in the past. Just like the English, I didn't like the way the Scots dressed, their culture, etc. It's just awesome that this book made me understand more of the Scottish culture in the old days.

This book also made me so happy because it has a tinge of humour in it, and I'm speaking of witty humour. Garwood truly amazed me, although she didn't make me cry, she actually made me laugh out loud.

These lines in the book were my favorite:
"You've just described the Highlands in winter, lass. And you will marry me."
"Never."
Exactly one hour later, Lady Jamison was wed to Alec Kinkaid.

See how the mood shifts instantly? The book contains many scenes that has this kind of humour, the unexpected kind which leaves you hanging and at the same time makes you laugh.

I recommend this book to all readers who, just like me love the old English setting. As for those readers who haven't tried reading one of this kind, you should try this one. It could be the start of your love for old English books. hihi.

By the way, if your'e looking for books and your'e in Davao City, I know a place where you can borrow books. Just tell me and I'll tell you where to find it. The shop's named Davao Readers Haven.
